Turning Mud Into Gemstones! Jennie Lorette Keatts uses clay in a different way! She hand makes pottery cabochons and sets them in sterling silver. The pottery stones are created by hand-forming the stones and firing them several times to create pieces full of depth and beauty. The glazes are a product of the earth and therefore blend beautifully with the semi-precious stones used to complement them. In combining the Jugtown Pottery glazes Keatts has found that she can create some of the randomness found in nature in her beautiful stones and gems.
Keatts creates her jewelry using sterling silver, 14K and 18K gold, copper, brass and semi-precious stones. Beaded necklaces include handmade pottery beads, antique, vintage and new glass from around the world, sterling silver and semi-precious stones. Many pieces are mixed metals, layering gold and copper or brass on sterling silver and adding pottery and semi-precious stones. Watches have become her most popular item! Texture is abundant in the jewelry, with many reticulated or hand etched pieces of sterling and copper. Amethyst, garnet, labradorite, lapis, sodalite, rhyolite and turquoise are some of the many stones used in her jewelry.
