Collaborative Porcelain Platter is 13” in diameter,  wheel thrown by Frank Neef. After the piece was thrown, it was trimmed and the design was created in pencil around the rim.  the design was then cut out with an exacto knife . Once cleaned and dried the platter was bisque fired to 1850 degrees, then given to Paul Ray of Ray Pottery for glazing & firing. Paul’s wife Evelyn, created the inside design with a variety of copper red glazes. Paul then sprayed their golden ash glaze around the cut work.

The piece was fired in the gas kiln at Ray Pottery. Precise atmosphere conditions inside the kiln are required to achieve the copper red glaze. Fired to 2400 degrees and allowed to cool for 2 days.
