“There is always room for one more pot”, said a pottery customer to Samantha at the annual Celebration of Seagrove Potters. Samantha replied “Yes! That is what we always say when we buy another pot too.”
And just like there is room for another piece of pottery…there is a reason for one more open house!
Jugtown Pottery
For over thirty years, we’ve reserved the first Saturday in December for this fun event. During the months leading up to our Holiday Opening, we save back special and unusual pieces as they come out of different firings, to be made available on this day. We always have a great group of pots, and the Sales Cabin will be full with American Crafts and JLK Jewelry to complement the Jugtown pieces, all available for purchase beginning at 8:30 on Dec. 7, when the Sales Cabin opens. For anyone arriving early, the Jugtown Museum will be open and warm for your comfort while you wait.

Westmoore Pottery
Westmoore Pottery will hold a Holiday Open House. As the end of the year fast approaches, this is always a great time for me to see old friends and meet new people! The shop will be decorated for the holidays. New Christmas ornaments will be available, including some made from recycled materials. Historical cooks, Karen Becker and Carolyn Dilda, will assist visitors with cooking their own completely non-historical treats in the fireplace. (Karen's secret "other life" is as Mrs. Santa Claus!) We will also have other refreshments available. To cut down on year-end inventory, all Ceramics in America volumes will have a 20% discount for the day. (In-shop only.) Two Westmoore Pottery kilns will be opened early that day. One is of green-glazed wares, a perfect color for the holiday season, and the other a small kiln load of decorated plates with the blue background. Some pottery decorated specially with seasonal motifs will be available -- as always, this is first-come-first-served; nothing may be reserved ahead. One special part of only this year's celebration will be the offering of some top quality vintage pottery in a special section of the shop. Jeanette Moore, who worked at Jugtown for many years, left her sisters an estate with an astounding amount of pottery in excellent condition. She used the pottery only for display all her life. The collection is especially strong on Jugtown Pottery of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Jeanette welcomed and befriended the many young potters (myself included) who passed through as apprentices or potters at Jugtown over the years of her career there. This is reflected in the fairly rare pieces she owned that have both the Jugtown stamp as well as the stamp or signature of a temporary young potter there. If you or anyone you know loves Jugtown Pottery, come and enjoy looking at all the fine pieces. If you collect Jugtown Pottery, you'll undoubtedly see some pieces that need to go home with you!
