I believe creativity is something you have to invest in everyday, and making beautiful pots at Bulldog Pottery with my wife Samantha Henneke is the creative core of my life. Hello, My name is Bruce Gholson, and I own and operate Bulldog Pottery along with my wife Samantha Henneke. We moved to Seagrove in 1997 and have been potters in the community for over 17 years.  I
create functional and decorative ceramics throwing with a variety of clays and developing unique glaze formulas. I find changing between porcelain, stoneware, and red clays stimulates ideas and possibilities for continued exploration in my work.  I have been fascinated with fossils, fish, reptiles, and insects since childhood.  Recent interests have included fossilization in amber, Chinese scholar stones, and arrowheads from the region.  I received my M.F.A. in ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 1997, and my BFA in ceramics from the University of Georgia at Athens in 1978.  I worked at Berea College’s Clay program in Berea, Kentucky, for three years as the graduate apprentice, making pots, managing the materials inventory, firing schedules, and studio maintenance.  Originally I am from Stillwater, Oklahoma, where I started making pots in 1973 after my first exposure to clay in my hometown’s college ceramics facility at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.  I have work in many private and museum collections including AMOCA, Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramics Art, Mobile Museum of Fine Art, Arizona State University Art Museum, The Gregg Museum, and The Mint Museum.

“Cousins in Clay” Contemporary Ceramic Art
"Cousins in Clay": A sale of Contemporary Ceramic Art at Bulldog Pottery.  Bruce Gholson/Samantha Henneke will host pottery artists Michael Kline, Julia Galloway, Tara Wilson, and Dug Stanat.  During Saturday, Chronis Pou Vasiliou of Greensboro will fill the air with his enchanting Greek Bouzouki music. Julia Galloway and Tara Wilson will present a pottery demonstration on Saturday from 3:00-4:00pm. The annual potters’ potluck will be on Sunday at noon, all are welcome to bring a dish and share. On Sunday from 1:30-2:30 Dug Stanat will present a pottery demonstration.  This special two-day event is a wonderful time to meet the potters, ask questions, and add to your pottery collection or begin one.
