Chris Luther

Chris Luther is a multi-generational potter and ceramic artist from one of Seagrove’s founding families, the Chriscoe’s. Building upon his childhood influences of utilitarian wares and regional art pottery training, his work often features a fusion of traditional and modern techniques, characterized by bold forms, rich textures, and vivid glazes.  Chris’s pottery typically includes a wide range of functional and decorative items such as vases, bowls, mugs, bottles, and other vessels, each uniquely crafted with dynamic color palettes and layered glazes. Functional art forms also include those that are elongated, exaggerated, angled and/or arched.  His glazes are particularly distinctive, often blending multiple hues in a way that enhances the shape of each piece showcasing soft blues, sea foam greens, copper reds, and earthy ashes. He is known for experimenting with different firing techniques through reduction and oxidation kilns to achieve varied effects, which adds depth and character to his work. Chris has gained a strong following among collectors, galleries, and art enthusiasts who appreciate the craftsmanship and technical skill in his pieces.   His family studio and showroom are located on historic Busbee Road in Seagrove with special events scheduled throughout the year.
