“5th Generation Potter”
Every piece in my shop is handmade, hand carved, and individually designed by me. I primarily create pottery using Sgrafitto which is a decorative technique that involves scratching through a top layer of black underglaze to reveal a contrasting color underneath.
I am a 5th generation potter here in Seagrove. My great great grandfather, Stephen Richardson, was a potter and created pottery throughout the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. My great grandfather, Wendell Richardson, also resided and created pottery here in Seagrove throughout the early 1900’s.
My grandfather, Robert “Bobby” Richardson, resided and created pottery here in Seagrove as well. My grandpa Bobby would dig up clay on our family land, where I currently reside and operate my shop, and bring it back to his old chicken house to transform into usable pottery clay. My plot of land has been passed down through my family over the generations and has many large holes throughout where my grandpa Bobby dug up many years worth of clay for personal use and to sell to other Seagrove potters.
Before I began creating pottery full time in March 2024, I worked in emergency services for four and a half years. I started working as a 911 dispatcher at age 18 then began working in law enforcement at age 20 until leaving at age 23 to pursue pottery as a career.
